N-Iodosuccinimide is a iodo substituted succinimide that is used as an iodinating agent in chemical synthesis.
Production method
1. Under the condition of avoiding light, the reaction of succinimide with silver oxide can produce n-succinimide silver. This is reacted with iodine in dried dioxane to form n-iodosuccinimide.
2. Put 20 grams (0.079 moles) of iodine and 90 ml of dried dioxanhydride in a wide-mouth, screw-capped brown bottle with a capacity of 150 to 200 ml. Most of the iodine is dissolved. Add 18 grams (0.087 moles) of silver n-monobutylphthalimide that has been thoroughly dried. Shake the bottle vigorously for a few minutes, shake the mixture occasionally for the next hour, and heat it in a 50℃ water bath for 5 minutes. Strain hot through a Brinell funnel and wrap well in black paper or aluminum foil. In a ml filter bottle. Collect silver iodide and wash with 10 ml of hot dioxane. The filtrate is combined in the filter bottle, 200 ml of carbon tetrachloride is added, and the solution is cooled at 8℃ to 20℃ overnight, and N-iodosuccinimide is precipitated into colorless crystals. Collect in a Brinell funnel with as little exposure to light as possible, wash with 25 ml of carbon tetrachloride, and filter to dry. Dry overnight at 25℃/1m rn in a dark place. N-iodobutylphthalimide weighs 14.3-15.1 g (81-85%),
